Cruise the Mediterranean from the south of France to Italy’s Sardinia, taking in five courses en-route.

Monaco is a word rarely spoken without it sharing a sentence with ‘glitz and glamour’, so boarding a private yacht charter from here – after a night in the Monte Carlo casino – is pretty much A-list celeb/blue-blooded territory. That you’re then going to be taking in five of Europe’s finest courses, and stopping at the hot spots of the Cote d’Azur before island hopping to Corsica and Sardinia, only takes this golf experience into the realms of gold-plated bucket-list.

After an evening in Monte Carlo, you set sail aboard your superyacht complete, naturally, with 11 on-board staff – and it’s a short trip down France’s Mediterranean coast to Antibes, with its 16th-century fort, and status as an art mecca, Picasso lived and worked here. Your first round of Golf is at Royal Mougins, a resort often considered France’s best with a course designed by Ryder Cup architect Robert von Hagge. Two more sailing stops heading further south along the sparkling coast, first to Cannes where you head inland to Provence, the land of lavender, rosé and golf at Terre Blanche, with its two award-winning Championship courses. Your next stop, Saint-Tropez – and, for those fortunate enough to get invited, golf at the super-exclusive members’ only Vidauban (Robert Trent Jones Sr) – and you’re then setting sail for Corsica. After exploring Calvi with its famous citadel, it’s then to Girolata Marine Reserve, a protected area where isolation is absolute, the pristine beaches are blissfully, and a long-deserted Genoese fort overlooks it all, together with the local cormorants, gulls and even sea eagles.

A fifth course – or six if you play both at Terre Blanche – is found at Bonifacio, a town on the southernmost tip of Corsica. And Spérone is no afterthought either, with designer Robert Trent Jones Sr, saying of the course: “The tee from 12 is one of the most beautiful in the world … because of their beauty and variety, holes 12 to 16 at Spérone are comparable to the sea holes at Pebble Beach and Cypress Point.” 

The final two days are spent visiting neighbouring Sardinia, a short sail south, one more round at Pevero – set on a peninsula between two glistening bays – and then time to relax and discuss and dissect every birdie and bogey from an epic Mediterranean golf cruise, in the lap of Italian luxury.
